Carnivorous plants often appear delicate, exotic and difficult to grow. In reality, many failures happen because they are treated like ordinary houseplants. Standard potting soil, fertilizer and mineral-rich tap water may be suitable for common indoor plants but can gradually kill a carnivorous species.
Hibiscus plants are popular for their large, colorful flowers and lush green foliage. They can be grown as tropical houseplants, patio plants, hardy garden shrubs or large flowering perennials. Although a healthy hibiscus can grow quickly, several pests may attack its leaves, stems, roots, buds and flowers.
Orchids are among the most popular houseplants, but many stop flowering for months after their original blooms fade. The plant may continue producing leaves and roots without showing any sign of a new flower spike. In most cases, the solution is not a special flowering product. Light, root health, watering, temperature and consistent care have a much greater effect.
Violets are among the most popular flowering plants for gardens, balconies and indoor spaces. Their delicate flowers, attractive colors and, in some species, sweet fragrance make them ideal for flower beds, containers, woodland gardens and windowsills. The word violet, however, is used for several different groups of plants. Garden violets and pansies generally belong to the genus Viola, while the popular indoor African violet belongs to the genus Streptocarpus and requires a very different style of care.
