Why You Will Love Alocasia ‘Jacklyn’

  • Deeply divided, highly decorative leaves
  • Strong dark veins and textured foliage
  • Attractive patterned stems
  • Upright and architectural growth
  • A striking focal point for indoor collections
  • An exceptional choice for lovers of unusual tropical plants

Light

Place Alocasia ‘Jacklyn’ in bright, indirect light. A well-lit position encourages strong growth and helps the plant maintain its attractive leaf shape and colouring.

Avoid intense direct sunlight, which can scorch the foliage and cause pale or dry patches. Insufficient light may lead to slower growth, smaller leaves and weaker stems.

Watering

Water when the upper layer of the substrate begins to feel slightly dry. During active growth, keep the soil lightly and evenly moist, but never permanently wet or waterlogged.

Allow all excess water to drain freely from the pot. Overwatering may cause yellow leaves, soft stems and root rot, while prolonged dryness can result in drooping foliage and crispy leaf edges.

Reduce watering during autumn and winter, especially if the plant’s growth slows down or it enters a period of dormancy.

Humidity

Alocasia ‘Jacklyn’ prefers moderate to high humidity. Higher humidity supports healthy leaf development and helps prevent brown, dry edges.

A humidifier, greenhouse cabinet or naturally humid room can provide suitable conditions. Keep the plant away from radiators, heaters, cold drafts and strong air-conditioning, which can dry or damage the foliage.

Temperature

The ideal temperature is approximately 18–27 °C. Warm and stable conditions are important for healthy growth.

Protect the plant from sudden temperature changes, cold windows and temperatures below approximately 15 °C. A combination of cold conditions and wet soil can quickly damage the roots.

Soil and Fertilising

Use a light, airy and well-draining substrate suitable for tropical houseplants. A mixture containing houseplant soil, perlite, coconut fibre and orchid bark provides a good balance of moisture retention, drainage and airflow around the roots.

Feed with a diluted, balanced houseplant fertiliser approximately once every three to four weeks during spring and summer. Reduce or stop fertilising during autumn and winter when growth naturally slows down.

Growth and Care

Alocasia ‘Jacklyn’ grows from an underground corm and produces new leaves from the centre of the plant. Older leaves may naturally yellow and die as new foliage develops.

Remove yellow or damaged leaves close to the base using clean tools. Rotate the pot occasionally to encourage balanced growth and prevent the plant from leaning towards the light.

The plant may enter dormancy during colder or darker months and temporarily lose some or all of its foliage. During this period, reduce watering and keep the substrate only slightly moist. Regular care can be resumed when new growth appears.

Important Information

Alocasia ‘Jacklyn’ contains calcium oxalate crystals and should not be consumed. Keep it away from children and pets that may chew the leaves or stems.

Each plant is naturally unique. Its height, fullness, leaf shape, stem pattern and colouring may vary slightly from the product photographs.
