Alocasia ‘Silver Dragon’
Alocasia ‘Silver Dragon’ is a spectacular tropical houseplant admired for its compact growth and striking, shield-shaped leaves. The foliage has a silvery-green surface marked with deep, dark veins, creating a textured and almost metallic appearance that makes this plant a true statement piece.
Its sculptural leaves and unusual colouring bring an elegant, exotic atmosphere to shelves, plant stands and carefully arranged indoor collections. Although it requires slightly more attention than some common houseplants, it rewards proper care with exceptionally decorative foliage.

- Deep, contrasting leaf veins
- Compact and sculptural growth
- Ideal for shelves and plant displays
- A distinctive choice for tropical interiors
- Perfect for collectors of unusual houseplants
Light
Place Alocasia ‘Silver Dragon’ in bright, indirect light. A well-lit position helps maintain its attractive colouring and supports healthy new growth.
Avoid strong direct sunlight, which may scorch the delicate leaves. Very low light can slow growth and cause the plant to produce smaller or weaker foliage.
Watering
Water when the upper layer of the substrate begins to feel slightly dry. Keep the soil lightly moist during active growth, but never permanently wet or waterlogged.
Allow excess water to drain freely from the pot, as prolonged moisture around the roots can lead to root rot. During autumn and winter, reduce watering as the plant’s growth naturally slows.
Humidity
Alocasia ‘Silver Dragon’ prefers moderate to high humidity. Higher humidity helps keep the leaves healthy and reduces the risk of dry, brown edges.
It grows especially well in warm bathrooms, greenhouse cabinets or rooms with a humidifier. Keep the plant away from radiators, heaters, cold drafts and strong air-conditioning.
Temperature
The ideal temperature is approximately 18–27 °C. Protect the plant from sudden temperature changes and temperatures below 15 °C.
Warm, stable conditions are particularly important during the active growing season.
Soil and Fertilising
Use a light, airy and well-draining substrate suitable for tropical houseplants. A mixture containing houseplant soil, perlite, coconut fibre and fine orchid bark provides a good balance of drainage, moisture retention and airflow around the roots.
Feed with a diluted, balanced houseplant fertiliser approximately once every three to four weeks during spring and summer. Reduce or stop fertilising during autumn and winter.
Growth and Care
Alocasia ‘Silver Dragon’ grows from an underground corm and produces new leaves from the centre of the plant. Remove yellow or damaged leaves when necessary, cutting them close to the base with clean tools.
Rotate the pot occasionally to encourage balanced growth. Wipe the leaves gently with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust, but avoid using artificial leaf-shine products.
The plant may enter a period of dormancy during colder or darker months and temporarily lose some leaves. Reduce watering during this time and resume regular care when new growth appears.
Important Information
Alocasia ‘Silver Dragon’ contains calcium oxalate crystals and should not be consumed. Keep it away from children and pets that may chew the leaves.
Each plant is naturally unique. Its height, fullness, leaf shape and colouring may vary slightly from the product photographs.
