Light

Place the plant in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate a slightly shaded location, but growth may be slower and the leaves may develop fewer holes. Avoid strong direct sunlight, which can damage or scorch the foliage.

Watering

Water when the upper layer of soil feels dry. Keep the soil lightly moist, but never permanently wet. Allow excess water to drain away after watering, as standing water can lead to root damage.

During autumn and winter, the plant usually needs less frequent watering.

Humidity

Monstera adansonii enjoys higher humidity and grows especially well in kitchens, bathrooms or rooms with a humidifier. Regular misting can help increase humidity around the plant, although good air circulation should always be maintained.

Temperature

The ideal temperature is approximately 18–27 °C. Protect the plant from cold drafts, sudden temperature changes and temperatures below 15 °C.

Soil and Fertilising

Use a light, well-draining substrate suitable for tropical houseplants. A mixture containing houseplant soil, perlite, coconut fibre or orchid bark helps keep the roots healthy and aerated.

Feed the plant with a balanced houseplant fertiliser approximately every two to four weeks during spring and summer. Reduce or stop fertilising during the colder months when growth naturally slows down.

Growth and Care

The Monkey Mask can be left to trail freely or encouraged to climb. Providing a moss pole or support helps the plant grow more upright and may encourage the development of larger leaves.

Trim long stems when necessary to maintain a compact shape. Pruned cuttings can also be propagated in water or directly in a suitable growing medium.
